Meet Me - For Individuals, Leadership & Executive Coaching, Career & Job Search Coaching
One of the biggest determinants of success in a coaching engagement is the fit between a client and coach; each must feel like they can trust each other enough to explore the uncharted territory that growth requires. I offer a free 30 minute session so we can get a sense of each other, the client can talk about what they're looking for, I describe the way I work, and we assess whether we think the partnership has potential.
Launch - For Individuals, Leadership & Executive Coaching, Career & Job Search Coaching
When starting a coaching engagement, I work with a block of 6 sessions. This feels like the sweet spot between enough time to really get something concrete out of the sessions, and a manageable commitment for the client.
After 6 sessions we get a chance to reflect on the process and decide whether and how to continue.
Deep Dive - For Individuals, Leadership & Executive Coaching, Career & Job Search Coaching
After initiating the work, I like to work in 8 session blocks. This gives scope to build momentum, but with an end point so the coaching work doesn't feel infinite. Clients usually continue for several of these 8 session blocks if they're working on deeper issues.

I'm coach, writer and OD consultant practising out of Cape Town, South Africa. The first part of my career was in management consulting and in my mid 30's I finally gave attention to a nagging voice that wouldn't go away. I pursued an interest in clinical psychology, ending up somewhere in-between; working with human behaviour in organisations, which I love.
Coaching method / approach
Michael’s style is to work with what is present, acknowledging what’s working well, while using creativity, humour, candour and gentle pressure (relentlessly applied) to bring about change. A successful coaching engagement invites the client to look beneath the surface of presenting issues, and to consider their own role in situations without needing to explain or justify. In his experience, the degree of curiosity with which a client can look at their own behaviour is a better predictor of coaching success than any other factor.
