My coaching method & approach
My coaching method is informed by my background in psychology, work and life experiences, and training in organizational / executive coaching as well as Positive Intelligence®, which focuses on using micro-mindfulness and neuroplasticity to overcome negative thought patterns.I'm outcome-focused, and believe in action-based approaches, but with thoughtful exploration of coachees' strengths, self-limiting beliefs, mental-emotional patterns and values which underpin their goals.
Coachees have told me I have a warm, empathetic style and am good at holding space, but can also be structured and gently challenge them. I often match the energy and pace of coachees, but adjust based on feedback (some people prefer to be more strongly challenged, or prefer for me to set a higher or calmer energy for them).
Notes / Remarks
Professionally, I've worked 10-12 years in partnerships, strategy and business development, successfully transitioning from a literature degree into public service, and then into venture capital.Prior to a mid-career university degree in Psychology, I was Associate Partner at a global early-stage venture capital firm responsible for initial market expansion into China. I also previously managed a portfolio of non-profits, and mid-cap to large-cap biomedical client accounts - Europe- and US-based companies looking at expansion strategies in APAC.
My roles have required me to constantly adjust to different client backgrounds and cultures, while learning industry-specific norms (e.g. policy, then fund structure and entrepreneurship) and presenting in public to large and small audiences.
===
Personally, my focus has been on personal development, in terms of:
1)aligning my actions, thoughts and emotions with my values
2)developing habits for more effective goal achievement
3)understanding approaches and tools for greater self-awareness and self-mastery
I've lived and worked in China, the UK, Australia and Singapore, and am currently based 50-50 in Singapore and Shanghai. In my spare time I've taken up Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (highly recommended!).
